Each circle is how much ground one animal needs — its home range, drawn around your spot as a circle of the same area. Real home ranges are never circles: they follow woodlots, streams and ridges. The size is the honest part, not the shape.

Typical figures from the wildlife literature; home range varies widely with habitat, season and sex, so each animal shows a low–high span too. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
